Workshop SCROLL was founded in Zemun in 2007. Its founders and owners are

BILJANA and JOVAN POPOVIC

Workshop SCROLL repairs stringed instruments. Our business motto is: WE offer top-quality and FAST repair. We are recommended by numerous music schools and academies in Serbia and surroundings, with whom we have long and successful collaboration. In addition, we cooperate with the Radio Symphony Orchestra, Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic and numerous eminent musicians.

Besides repair, we build top-quality violins, and our instruments find their place both in Serbia and many European cities. These top-quality instruments are hand-made in the Workshop SCROLL and coated with lacquer composed of 9 types of resins that we make by ourselves using the technology of old Italian craftsmen. We provide expert assessment of violins, as well as advice and mediation in purchasing these instruments. Each violin made in our Workshop will be supplied with the appropriate certificate.

Our desire is to eliminate misconception that new instruments do not sound good. A newly built instrument with good sound will just get better tone quality over time, and if it had not had good sound at first – it would have never got it! Note that the violins made by the Old Italian artists were also new at that time, and those instruments (newly built at that time) were played by virtuosos of those days, among whom Niccolò Paganini was one of the most famous.

Workshop SCROLL artists are the members of the Association of Violin Makers of Serbia and the Arts and Crafts Association of Serbia

JOVAN POPOVIĆ  is one of our most famous violin makers. He has been dealing with violin making over 40 years. Jovan learnt the craft from Aleksa Smigeljski, a student of Batta Morrasi (Giovanni Batta Morrasi,, the most famous Italian violin-maker nowadays). His instruments may be found in all Academies in Serbia and region, as well as in the orchestras throughout Europe, USA and Australia. Until these days (2012. Year), he has made 172 violins out of which he donated 29 instruments to talented children who could not afford a good instrument. He bequeathed one violin to Music School “Kosta Manojlovic” in Zemun, the town where he lives and works.

BILJANA POPOVIĆ is the first, and so far, the only woman in Serbia and surroundings as well as one of a few worldwide who is occupied with the violin making.
